Image by Jordan Jameson With COVID-19 and #StayHome orders, a lot of freelance photographers around the world have been struggling to keep their photoshoot appointments or schedule new ones. Same is the case with Sawyer Reed Moss, a sophomore at Western Washington University and a part-time freelance photographer who usually gets a lot of photoshoots done during the weekends and breaks. Pre-spring break, she was in a similar routine, looking forward to completing many graduation photoshoots. Until so many regulations due to the virus hit her, not just her classes were switched to online instruction, she also met with having to cancel these photoshoots. Despite the cancellations, Sawyer has been trying her best to keep herself occupied and staying creative while finishing up her second year of classes in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. She was able to do a photoshoot at home with her mother as her model, being able to try fresh ideas and stay in touch with photography. You can find few pictures of the photoshoot in the bottom of this blog post. She has also been keeping in touch with her relatives who are photographers to do FaceTime conversations and check out their #StayHome projects. Sawyer also expressed how this period of social distancing could change the way future photoshoots are being booked. She expects a lot of people to be hesitant to book photoshoots even when everything opens back up and travel might even be very limited, limiting the amount of photography projects for photographers. As of now, she is still looking to take pictures of her friends while maintaining social distance. Photography is something that needs no physical contact at all and it is possible to follow all rules while building that impressive portfolio.
